Riley Cooper to focus strictly on baseball this spring
Junior receiver Riley Cooper will not participate in spring football drills, and instead will concentrate fully on baseball.
Cooper, a former Clearwater Central Catholic two-sport athlete, is an outfielder for the Gators who is currently batting .269, including five doubles and two home runs. Cooper also has the green light to play summer baseball for the second consecutive season.
Last season, he alternated his time between spring football and baseball, and had five receptions in the Orange and Blue spring game.
He is expected to have a much greater role in the Florida offense with the loss of Percy Harvin and Louis Murphy, but UF coach Urban Meyer said he's not worried about Cooper missing spring practice.
"He's all baseball right now, then he's going to come back and play football,'' Meyer said. "He won't be out at all this spring and we'll let him play summer ball. That was part of the agreement when he came in, and he proved he can handle it. He played very well for us, certainly at the end.''
