Tim Tebow is adding to his many duties.

The Heisman Trophy winner and starting quarterback of the defending national champion Florida football team is now the co-chair of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness.

Tebow was appointed Wednesday by Gov. Charlie Crist and will serve alongside council chair Derrick Brooks, former linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and co-chair and Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller. 

“Tim Tebow’s leadership and servanthood both on and off the field make him an ideal candidate to serve as co-chair of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness,” Gov. Crist said.  “Tim is a true role model who consistently demonstrates the fitness and healthy living characteristics the council is responsible for promoting.”

Other high-profile athletes on the council include former NHL star Dave Andreychuk, tennis star and Olympian Jennifer Capriati, NFL running back Warrick Dunn, Olympic swimmer Nancy Hogshead-Makar, Boston Red Sox third-baseman Mike Lowell, Phoenix Suns center Shaquille O’Neal, Olympic softball player Dr. Dot Richardson, world champion surfer Kelly Slater, and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres.

The Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness was originally established in May 2007 to promote health and wellness in the state, through development of a plan of action to increase physical fitness through regular exercise and sound nutrition practices among Floridians of all ages, and to reduce the rate of obesity resulting in chronic illnesses.
