Former Freedom High standout Calvin Smith wins coveted track honor
Calvin Smith, the former Freedom High track standout, was awarded the 2009 SEC men's Commissioner's Trophy, which is awarded to the league's high-points scorer at the SEC outdoor Track and Field championships.
The junior sprinter finished with 22 total points, earning an SEC individual championship in the 400-meters, a runner-up finish in the 200-meters, and he was also part of an SEC Champion 4x100-meter relay team and a third-place 4x400-meter relay team.
“It’s a great honor for Calvin and it shows how hard he has been working,” UF coach Mike Holloway said. “To see what he accomplished this weekend just tells you what a great SEC meet he had.”
