Gator earns women's outdoor NCAA shot put title
Florida thrower Mariam Kevkhishvili on Thursday became the first woman since 2005 to win both the indoor and outdoor NCAA shot put titles in the same season.
Kevkhishvili won the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Shot Put Championship with a throw of 58-4.50/17.79m. It was the first NCAA outdoor shot put championship of her career and she became the first person since former Gator Kimberli Barrett in 2005 to win both the indoor and outdoor titles in the same season.
Kevkhishvili also is the two-time defending NCAA indoor shot put champion.
Kevkhishvili’s victory marked one of four All-America honors for the Gators on the second day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday at John McDonnell Field on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
