Gators Carlos Dunlap, Brandon Spikes on Bednarik Watch List
Junior DE Carlos Dunlap and senior LB Brandon Spikes have been named to the 2009 Watch List for the Chuck Bednarik Award, given to the most outstanding collegiate defensive players of the year, since 1995.
Dunlap, the Defensive MVP of the BCS national championship game, had 39 tackles last season, including 21 solo and 18 assisted. He also had a team-leading 13.5 tackles for loss and 9 1/2 sacks.
Spikes was a consensus first-team All-American and first-team All-SEC performer in 2008. He was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and a semifinalist for the Lombardi Award and Bednarik Award. He was one of only five linebackers in the nation with two interception returns for touchdowns last season, which tied the school record.
