With all the talk about who is going to take over the Percy Harvin role in Florida's 2009 offense, another area seems to have been vastly overlooked.

Who will replace former receiver Louis Murphy?

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Murphy's value to the team was often overlooked and finding someone - or several players - to fill the void left by Murphy's departure may be just as critical as replacing Harvin.

"I think it is,'' Meyer said.  "I told our staff that. He’s (Murphy) the most underrated - he's starting for the Raiders. The coach called me and told me how proud he is of the guy. You think about the Alabama game and he, I can count right now three tremendous plays he had in that game, and obviously the national championship game. So that’s a major loss in our program. And I think with Tebow and Harvin and all these others, Brandon James, Brandon Spikes, all of a sudden, what happened to this Murphy guy? You put him on a lot of other teams, he’s probably an All-American. That’s how good a player he was. And right now, we’re having a hard time filling his void.''

Meyer said senior Riley Cooper and redshirt sophomore Deonte Thompson are set to take over Murphy's position.

Recievers coach Billy Gonzales said he's not so much concerned with replacing Murphy as he is with developing more players in that mode.

"I don’t talk to my guys too much about trying to replace people,'' Gonzales said. "Obviously we need to pick up the production. We always talk about when one guy leaves, the next guy better be ready. Not necessarily replace, but be able to contribute, function and able to do the exact same things. Do I want Deonte to be able to play like Murph? Hopefully I want him to play as hard as Murphy, as hard as Dallas Baker, as hard as Bubba Caldwell. That’s what we’re looking for -  the great tradition of the guys that have been before them.''
