Tim Tebow says Gators more than ready to get the season started
Florida opens its 2009 preseason football practices today, and according to Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, this may be the best fall camp since his arrival in 2006.
Tebow said last week that he can't pass a player in the hall or on campus who isn't eager to talk about the start of practice.
He considers that a sign the Gators are a mature team ready to face the challenge that comes with being defending national champions.
“Guys are just so excited to get the season here,’’ Tebow said. “Most of the time, guys can’t wait for two-a-days to get over. Right now what you’re hearing is guys saying "I can’t wait for practice, I can’t wait for two-a-days to get here. I can’t wait to get out there.' It’s just a totally different atmosphere from any other team I’ve been a part of, and it’s very exciting for me.
Florida returns all 11 starters from its defense and, according to Tebow, has more than enough veteran leadership to ensure the team starts our strong, then stays that way.
We're so much more (prepared to deal with the season) than last year,'' Tebow said. "Last year, we had a lot of talent and a lot of good leadership, but it got better through the year. I think this year, right at the start, we’re ready to go. The leaders are ready to go, the team is ready to go. The chemistry, everyone is on the same page.''
The players apparently aren't the only ones eager to get started.
"I've never been more anxious to coach a football team,'' Florida coach Urban Meyer said.
