Should Nick Williams' hit on Tim Tebow have been a penalty? Urban Meyer thinks so
The controversial hit that Georgia's Nick Williams put on Florida quarterback Tim Tebow last Saturday should have been a penalty, UF coach Urban Meyer said.
Williams can be seen in a YouTube clip hitting Tebow after he's handed off and is no longer involved in the play. SEC teams routinely send video clips each week of plays they want reviewed or clarified by the league's SEC director of officials, and the Williams-Tebow clip was on that Florida asked to be reviewed. Meyer said he couldn't reveal the league offices' findings.
"I'm not sure I'm allowed to give you that, what they said,'' he said during Wednesday's SEC coaches teleconference. "I don't want to step out of line. "That should have been a penalty in my opinion. Obviously it should have been. You've got to protect quarterbacks. That's the whole purpose. It's right in front of the
referee.''
Meyer said he has great respect for the league office, and isn't sure if anything will come of the reviewed tape.
"I'm not sure how they're going to handle that but we do send it in, and that was one of the plays we did send in,'' Meyer said.
