Carlos Dunlap will be allowed to play in Sugar Bowl

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Friday night that DE Carlos Dunlap will be allowed to play in the Jan. 1 Sugar Bowl.

Dunlap was arrested in the early morning hours of Dec. 1 and charged with DUI. He has entered a plea of not guilty and has a scheduled court appearance for Jan. 21. He was indefinitely suspended from the team and missed the SEC Championship game on Dec. 5. The Gators lost 32-13 to Alabama.

"He's going to play if he takes care of things,'' Meyer said. "I (spoke) with the administration, the president (Dr. Bernie Machen) and also the athletic director (Jeremy Foley). It was his first mistake, a real serious one, but he paid a serious price as well. It was a real serious mistake, but also since he's been here, he's been a good student, a good person and represented (UF) well.''

Dunlap recently began working out with the team again, and practiced on Friday.

Asked if his arrest has humbled Dunlap, Meyer responded: "It devastated him.''
