Florida loses another assistant coach

BedfordVance Florida secondary coach Vance Bedford is leaving the staff to join outgoing coordinator Charlie Strong at Louisville.

Strong, who was hired two weeks ago as the new Louisville head coach originally said he had no plans to hire anyone from Florida's staff, but has confirmed that Bedford will join him as his new defensive coordinator.

Bedford, 51, joined the Gators' staff two years ago from Michigan where he was the secondary coach. He served as defensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2005-06.

Bedford is the third assistant to leave the staff since the SEC Championship loss - including Strong and former receivers coach Billy Gonzales who has joined the staff at rival LSU.

The Gators will also be without their head coach following Friday night's Sugar Bowl game when Urban Meyer begins an indefinite leave of absence. Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will take over as interim head coach in Meyer's absence.
