GAINESVILLE – Feleipe Franks is once again the Florida Gators' starting quarterback.
Interim coach Randy Shannon said Malik Zaire's injury means that Franks will be UF's first option Saturday against UAB.
"You have to go with Franks," Shannon said Monday.
Zaire left Saturday's loss at South Carolina with a knee injury, putting Franks back into action.
Franks, a four-star redshirt freshman, began the season as a starter before losing the job to Luke Del Rio. Franks regained it when Del Rio went down with a season-ending collarbone injury, then lost it again to Zaire after coach Jim McElwain's departure.
Franks is 92-of-160 passing for 1,102 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions.
Zaire, a grad transfer from Notre Dame, is day-to-day. Receiver Dre Massey – a former high school quarterback – has also practiced at the position. Massey has been a change-of-pace quarterback for UF in certain packages.
