FSU says Reddit is wrong; Seminoles are bowl eligible after all

In a stunning turn of events, it seems that not everything you read online is true.

Florida State affirmed Friday night that it is indeed bowl eligible, despite some sleuthing from Reddit that suggested otherwise.

A Reddit thread went viral when a user suggested Division I-AA Delaware State did not use 90 percent of its allotted scholarships. If that had been accurate, the Seminoles would not have been able to count that win among the six needed for bowl eligibility.

But FSU announced Friday night that Delaware State met that 90 percent threshold, meaning the Seminoles rightfully qualified for their NCAA-record 36th consecutive bowl game.

Here's FSU's statement:

Florida State has received confirmation from Delaware State that the 90 percent requirement is satisfied for the 2017 season, allowing the victory to be used in determining bowl eligibility.

Media reports suggesting otherwise failed to account for a long-standing NCAA rules interpretation that permits institutions to use academic scholarships and other forms of non-athletics institutional aid received by student-athletes in the computation of this requirement. These media reports represent incomplete information, as they only reflect athletics scholarships received.

Florida State departs Saturday for the Walk-On's Independence Bowl, marking the Seminoles' 36th consecutive postseason appearance.
