Armwood alum Zack Powers named SEC Co-Player of the Week
Florida sophomore infielder Zack Powers, a graduate of Armwood, has been named the SEC Coi-Player of the Week. He shares this week's award with Kentucky second baseman J.T. Riddle.
The honor comes one day after Powers was named one of the Louisville Slugger National Players of the Week.
Powers helped lead the No. 13 Gators to a season-opening season win over Duke. After being sidelined during the 2012 season, this past weekend Powers went 3-for-6 in three games.
In Sunday’s decisive third game, he joined Tampa’s Preston Tucker as the only Gators in school history to hit a pair of grand slams in the same game.
Powers hit grand slams in the seventh and eight innings. His nine RBI tied for the third-most in school history in a game behind Tucker’s 11 RBI against UCF in 2009.
Before a knee injury derailed his season last year, Powers drove in seven runs in 35 games.
The Gators (2-1) are back in action today vs. UCF (2-1). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Jay Bergman Field. UF junior right-hander Keenan Kish will oppose UCF senior left-hander Brian Adkins.
