Big 12 conference expansion: What others are saying

Now that you've had 36 hours for the news to sink in about the Big 12's decision not to expand (sorry, Bulls and Knights), let's check out the reaction from across the state and country:

Fox Sports' Stewart Mandel says the league owes many people an apology, including the head honchos and fans at Houston, BYU, USF and UCF.

Sports Illustrated's Pete Thamel writes that the league never really considered USF or UCF all that much. He also says that the Big 12 isn't organized enough to have conducted this whole expansion process just to extort more money from ESPN and Fox.

The Kansas City Star's Sam Mellinger compares the Big 12 to Nickelback...but also says the league made the correct decision.

This headline on a piece by the Orlando Sentinel's David Whitley sums it up well: Big 12 conference expansion clown car crushes UCF.

Finally, ESPN's Adam Rittenberg says that the conference might have signed its own death warrant with Monday's decision.
