Alabama officials have told the Tuscaloosa News that a report on TMZ.com that Heisman Trophy running back Mark Ingram is the subject of NCAA scrutiny over his attendance at a party last spring is untrue.

“This was vetted before it happened,” UA spokesman Doug Walker told the Tuscaloosa paper.

Ingram approached the Alabama compliance office before going and got clearance from the NCAA, which said the trip was permissible as long as Ingram provided receipts showing he paid his own way. Ingram presented the receipts to the UA compliance office upon his return, Walker told the Tuscaloosa News.

 “Mark provided appropriate documentation,” Walker said. “We're not aware of any issues with this.''

The website TMZ.com is reporting that the NCAA wants to talk with Ingram about a party he allegedly attended at a Washington, D.C. nightclub on May 12.

TMZ.com says the party was thrown by former Gator Joe Haden, who was a first round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2010 NFL Draft.

"We have a great program in our organization that teaches us how to deal with situations like that (sports agents),'' Ingram said Wednesday at SEC media days. agents. "Everybody is educated on how to deal with situations and approach those situations. My main focus right now is on this football team and this football season.''

Also today, South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier confirmed the NCAA is investigating whether TE Weslye Saunders was among the growing list of players who are being questioned about attending a party in South Beach allegedly thrown by an agent.

"All I know is about what all of you fellas know, or the world knows now,'' Spurrier said. "He went with several players on a trip to Miami, I think during spring break. I guess the question is, who paid for it? Who paid for what they did while they were there? When the investigation is finished, I guess we'll find out about all the guys. I've talked to him briefly. He told me he's done nothing wrong. We'll let it play out.''
