Billy Donovan, Anthony Grant on opposing sides tonight

For a decade, Florida coach Billy Donovan and Anthony Grant were colleagues and close friends during their days at Marshall University and then with then with the Gators.

But tonight, when Florida plays at Alabama in a pivotal SEC game, the friendship will have to be put aside for a couple of hours.

The game is tonight at 7 on ESPNU.

Grant, the former Marshall and Florida assistant is in his first season as head coach at Alabama. And while this isn't the first time Donovan has had to face good friends on the court (Rick Pitino and John Pelphrey among them), he said it's not something he looks forward to and it never gets any easier.

“I’ve always said the lead-up to it is not really great just because you have a close relationship with somebody and things are so highly competitive at this level,’’ Donovan said. “But Anthony and I have a great relationship. I have great respect and admiration for Anthony and I’ll always appreciate all the things he’s done for our program during the time he was here and at Marshall. There are a lot of similarities, we’re doing a lot of similar things on offense and defense. So in a lot of ways preparation-wise there will be some things concept-wise that our guys will totally understand. ‘’
