Billy Donovan's son to transfer, join Florida Gators team
Florida men's basketball coach Billy Donovan announced today that his son, Billy, will transfter from Catholic University and joing the Gators' squad as a walk-on.
Donovan, who will be a junior this season, averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds and made 19 starts over 46 games in his two seasons at CUA. He averaged 5.9 points and finished second on the team with 49 assists as a sophomore in 2011-12.
He returned to Gainesville and played in the O'Dome during a 2011 exhibition game between CUA and Florida this past November.
“It’s going to be great to have Billy here, both for our team and for our family,” coach Donovan said. “I always want to be supportive and put him in a position to succeed, and I hope this will be a great experience for him.”
Donovan returns to Gainesville where he was a four-year starter and first-team All-Conference performer at St. Francis High School, scoring over 1,000 career points.
Per NCAA regulations, Donovan will have to sit out one season as a transfer, but may practice with the team during that time.
