Carlos Dunlap "devastated'' following arrest and missing SEC title game
While his teammates prepared to play in the biggest game of the season, junior DE Carlos Dunlap spent the week dealing with the aftermath of his arrest on DUI charges, and is “devastated’’ Meyer said.
Dunlap was arrested at nearly 4 a.m. Tuesday morning and charged with DUI after police officers spotted him asleep at the wheel at a traffic signal, and later smelled alcohol on his breath, according to police reports. Dunlap, 20, is not legal drinking age.
Dunlap has been suspended for Saturday's game, and UF coach Urban Meyer said Friday he's suffering because of his mistake.
“I met with his family and Carlos is, just under a 3.0 student (at a) great university,'' Meyer said. I told you he takes care of his business. This is very uncharacteristic of him. He made a horrible decision. He apologized. I am very close with his family and he is devastated. He made the comment that he didn’t want to hurt his teammates. It was a very poor decision, but it’s certainly not an indictment on who he is the rest of his life at all. I just want to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen again, for his future.’’
