Charlie Weis "cautiously optimistic" about Brantley's return
Florida is hoping senior QB John Brantley will be able to play against Georgia, but offensive coordinator Charlie Weis said Tuesday he’s preparing all three Gator QB’s. Brantley has missed the last 2 /2 games with a high ankle sprain.
“We’re cautiously optimistic it’s going to be him, but you have to plan,’’ Weis said. “You can come in (Wednesday) and it could be all swollen up and he’s not walking. You can’t just go in just planning on just him. You cant’ think that way. We’re gearing towards all options here. Fortunately with a bye week you have enough time to make those plans. It would be pretty rough to try to plan something like this in a one-week time frame.
If Brantley cannot start, freshman Jacoby Brissett will get the start over Jeff Driskel.
Weis said Brantley was playing some of his best football before he got hurt, and believes many people now realize his value to the team.
"All those people who wanted him out of here can't wait to get him back,'' Weis said.
