Chas Henry comfortable in dual kicking roles

If the Gators had won Saturday night, Florida coach Urban Meyer said punter Chas Henry would have been in line for MVP honors. It was Henry who took over field goal duties after Caleb Sturgis was diagnosed with a fractured back and unable to play.

A former high school kicker, Henry scored the Gators’ only points in the game and also had a career-high 75 yard punt.

“It had been awhile since I kicked field goals, but I think I got back in the groove pretty quickly,’’ Henry said. “Luckily I work on that in practice, too, so I felt comfortable.’’

Henry said credit also should be given to freshmen John Crofoot (holder) and Brad Phillips (kickoffs).

“John did an unbelievable job stepping in as a freshman,’’ Henry said. “We kind of joked with him about starting his career in this hostile environment. They both did a great job.’’

Sturgis could miss 6-8 weeks.
