Chase Hounshell chooses Notre Dame over Florida
OL Chase Houshell, who had been orally committed to the Gators since this past August, posted a message on his Facebook and Twitter accounts saying he has decided to decommit and instead attend Notre Dame.
The Kirkland (Ohio) Lake Cathlolic player is considered a three-star prospect by Rivals.com.
Three Gator coaches visited Hounshell over the weekend, including head coach Will Muschamp. Notre Dame's coaches also visited.
This probably should not come as a great shock. Hounshell was supposed to be among the Gators' early enrollees, but decided not to enroll in school this month after Urban Meyer's resignation, saying he wanted to make sure it was the right decision.
In his Tweet, the thanked "Gator Country" for their support, but said he had to do what's best for himself.
He is the third player to back out of his oral commitment since Meyer resigned including Groveland South Lake CB Nick Waisome and Plantation LB Ryan Shazier.
I'm not sure if Muschamp is losing any sleep over the losses.
Remember his statement from his first press conference as the Gators' new coach? "We're going to take the right guys, and we're going to worry about the guys we sign, not the ones that go someplace else.''
