Chris Rainey may return for Georgia game

Florida coach Urban Meyer said today that WR Chris Rainey is eligible to play in next week's game against rival Georgia, but whether he'll actually suit up hasn't been decided yet.

"He is eligible to play in this game, but that won't be determined until next week,'' Meyer said. "He's on a week-to-week (basis)."

Rainey was suspended from the team last month after he was arrested for sending a former girlfriend threatening text messages. Meyer announced last week that Rainey had been reinstated, but would be required to adhere to strict stipulations in a contractual agreement drawn up, and that his ability to completely rejoin the team would hinge on whether he fulfilled those requirements.

Florida and Georgia are currently tied for second in the SEC East, and next week's game is pivotal in the East race.

"He is eligible to participate in the Georgia game, but I'm not saying he will,'' Meyer said.

The Gators have been hampered by injuries to running backs Jeff Demps, Emmanuel Moody and Mike Gillislee, and Rainey could be moved back to RB, his former position, if necessary.

"We're not there yet,'' Meyer said when asked if he'd consider putting Rainey at running back. "Would I consider it? Sure. But we'll find out more next week.''
