Colleagues say Gators' Billy Donovan master at bending, but not breaking rules



Florida coach Billy Donovan has earned an interesting distinction from among fellow coaches, according to an unofficial poll.

Donovan is considered the second-best coach at bending NCAA rules - but not breaking them - according to fellow college coaches.

For the past week, has been running poll results gathered from its basketball writers - Gary Parrish, Jeff Goodman, Jeff Borzello and Matt Norlander. The four spent the month of July talking with nearly 100 coaches, asking them about some of college basketball's most current issues. This has included questions about the best players in the college game, fellow coaches and NCAA rules.

Given a promise of anonymity, the coaches answered question. Today's question?

Which coach is best at bending the rules but not breaking them?

Florida's Billy Donovan was listed at second behind Kentucky coach John Calipari.

Here is what one coach had to say: "Billy is, or at least he used to be, the best. He's the one who came up with the idea of elite camps. He's just really smart. He knows how to get things done."
