Dan Mullen expected to coach in BCS championship game
Florida offensive coordinator Dan Mullen is expected to coach with the Gators in the BCS national championship game on Jan. 8, UF head coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday afternoon.
Mullen accepted the head coaching job at Mississippi State last week, and he and Meyer have been in discussions about whether he would stay on through the bowl game.
"I think he's going to coach,'' Meyer said. "I talked to him (Monday) and the plan is I think he's going to come back right after Christmas. We've talked about it and our goal is to win the game. Right now, unless something changes, it looks like that's (Mullen coaching) is going to happen.''
Meyer said recruiting for both programs is an emphasis right now, and he respects that Mullen has a new job to attend to. But ultimately, his concern is putting the Gators in the best position to defeat Oklahoma in the national championship game.
"Is the best chance of us winning that game with the mechanics of the game and the way we do it (with Dan), probably yes,'' Meyer said. So the plan is he'll be up in the press box and we're going to go.''
