Donovan: No plans to leave Florida right now

April

Donovan GAINESVILLE - Florida coach Billy Donovan said Tuesday morning he has not had any conversations with adminstrators from the University of Kentucky about the Wildcats' vacant head coaching job and, for now, he plans on being at Florida next season.

"My intentions are to be at the University of Florida and coach their basketball team,'' Donovan said. "I'm happy there. I like the school and I love the players I'm coaching. . . I keep getting questions, but I think it's out of line for me to comment and talk about it because I'm commenting on something that I have no basis to comment on. There's been no dialogue or conversation at all.

Asked if the Kentucky job interests him, Donovan replied: "I don't know. I really don't know. I can honestly say I haven't given any thought other than coaching our basketball team right now.'

The coach said he wants people to understand that he's not trying to be coy or lead Florida fans on, but he doesn't feel he can comment on a job he hasn't been offered.

"I really have nothing to say,'' Donovan said. "I haven't given any thought to it, nor have I had any discussions with anybody so, it's hard for me to comment about anything.''

Donovan said reports that his agent has talked with a search firm working on Kentucky's behalf to seal a deal are untrue.

"I have not spoken with anybody that's close to me about anything at all,'' he said. "One of the things I said I wanted to do was coach our basketball team and take advantage of the opportunity we had in the NCAA Tournament. I can honestly tell you, I've got somebody that does represent me and I haven't talked to him in over a week. I've turned off my cell phone because I wanted to make sure that my total attention was on playing Butler, playing Oregon, playing UCLA and then playing Ohio State.''
