Donovan reportedly to hire Pitino's son
On Friday morning, Florida coach Billy Donovan said he was close to making a decision on the hiring of a new assistant coach.
Apparently, he's found his man.
ESPN.com is reporting that Richard Pitino, son of Louisville coach Rick Pitino, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Gators. He would replace Shaka Smart, who left the program after one season to become head coach at VCU.
Pitino is currently an assistant for his father at Louisville.
Donovan played for Pitino at Providence, then worked as an assistant coach under Pitino at Kentucky. He has said he considers Pitino the most influential person in his life next to his father.
Richard Pitino has also worked at Providence, Northeastern and Duquesne.
