Donovan to stay at Florida

GAINESVILLE - The battle between Kentucky and Florida over coach Billy Donovan is apparently over.

Florida has called a press conference for 4 p.m., and, according to several reports, will announce that Donovan will remain at Florida.

Donovan and Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley met early Thursday morning, and late Thursday morning athletic officials began setting up facilities for the press conference.

Foley declined to comment following his meeting with Donovan, but appeared to be in good spirits. is reporting that sources have confirmed Donovan will remain in Gainesville.

Kentucky officials asked, and received, permission to speak with Donovan about its vacant coaching job. Donovan was in Huntington, W. Va. on Wednesday to speak at a booster function at Marshall University. He said he had not been offered the Kentucky job, but if the offer came, he would have to consider it.

Donovan just completed the fourth year of a six-year contract in which he earns about 1.7 million annually. He declined a new offer reportedly worth $2 million last season, saying he didn't want to appear as if he was cashing in on the success of his players - four of whom had just turned down potential millions to return for their junior year instead of opting for the NBA.
