Emotional Steve Addazio prepares to move on
Steve Addazio may be headed to Temple University when his six-year tenure at Florida ends on Saturday, but if his actions on Thursday are any indication, the Florida offensive coordinator will carry strong memories with him.
Following the Gators’ final full practice on Thursday, an emotional Addazio reminisced about his first day walking into Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, his deep friendship with outgoing Florida head coach Urban Meyer and the close bond he shares with his players.
“You get close to these kids and it’s hard to say goodbye to them,’’ he said. “They are like family to you.’’
Addazio has been hired as the new head coach at Temple, but declined to talk about the subject on Thursday or how he’s juggling his old and new jobs this week, saying he only wants to focus on the Gators and the Outback Bowl. He would not say whether he plans to take any of the Gators’ current staff members with him.
Unfortunately, I didn't get video of Addazio today, but Cory Giger of the Altoona (Pa.) Mirror did capture the moment.
So you can listen to more of what Addazio had to say about his time at Florida and his relationship with Meyer here.
