Florida and Kentucky in SEC showdown tonight with first place on the line
Florida and Kentucky - the SEC’s top two teams - square off tonight in the O'Connell Center with first place in the league at stake.
The No. 7 Gators are defending an 11-0 home record, trying to maintain their top position in the SEC, and going for their 15th consecutive 20-win season under coach Billy Donovan.
The No. 25 Wildcats are trying to extend a five-game winning streak and move into first place in the SEC. Kentucky has held seven of its last eight opponents to under 40 percent shooting and has scored 70 or more points in eight of its last nine games.
The Gators have lost five straight against Kentucky, and Gators players said they are focused on snapping that losing streak tonight.
"Obviously they beat us three times last year, and that’s really embarrassing to lose to a team three times in one year,’’ UF guard Scottie Wilbekin said. “We want to come this year with a focus, effort and ready to play our best basketball.”
The game will be televised on ESPN at 7 p.m.
