Florida battles, but falls short against Kentucky in 74-71 SEC Tournament loss
Florida's third game against Kentucky this season proved to be much more competitive, but in the end the outcome was the same.
The Gators battled, but fell short in a 74-71 loss to the Wildcats in Saturday's SEC tournament semfinal. It was Florida's third loss this season to Kentucky, and the Wildcats are now 18-0 against SEC teams this season.
“We didn’t give up,’’ said Florida guard Bradley Beal, who had 20 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. “The first two games we kind of gave up down the stretch. But during this game we were down and we battled back. So I think from those three games this is the best we played against them by far and I’m really proud of my guys.’’
Florida forward Erik Murphy had a career-high 24 points, and said the Gators' two tournament games will benefit them down the road.
"I believe that it gives us something to build off of going into the practice next week,'' Murphy said. "We just need to be committed and focused on doing the things that we failed to do this game, and hopefully we can make a good run in the tournament coming out next week.''
