Florida CB Janoris Jenkins arrested on marijuana charge
Florida senior CB Janoris Jenkins was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. The charge is a misdemeanor.
According to a GPD release, Jenkins was at the Status Night Club in downtown Gainesville on Saturday, where police were involved in routine patrols.
Jenkins was in the restroom when he was caught with a small, clear bag of cannabis, according to GPD. He was not transported to the Alachua County Jail, but received a citation and notice to appear in court in February. Jenkins signed, effectively stating that he will comply with the mandated court date.
Jenkins, 22, announced earlier this month that he planned to return to Florida for his senior season.
This is his second arrest since joining the Gators' program. In May 2009, he was arrested for resisting arrest without violence when he was among many allegedly involved in a fight outside a Gainesville night club. His attorney at the time said Jenkins believed someone was trying to steal jewelry from him and he was defending himself. Jenkins received deferred prosecution and was required to pay court costs and/or complete community service.
Florida has not released a statement from new head coach Will Muschamp at this time.
