Florida coach Amanda Butler injured in flag football game
Amanda Butler, the Florida women's basketball coach who is set to begin her third season in about three weeks, underwent surgery on Monday to repair a torn left Achilles she suffered in a flag football game this past weekend.
“She was playing flag football and ripped her Achilles,’’ UF assistant coach Susie Gardner said Monday. “She’ll recover nicely. Coach Butler battled injuries throughout her collegiate career, so this will be nothing new for her.’’
Butler, 37, was a standout basketball player at UF from 1990-94, and was an active participant in the intramural flag football league. She was offensive MVP in the Swamp Bowl in the Florida intramural flag football league where she played quarterback in 1994.
She was playing the quarterback position on Saturday when she was injured.
The Gators open the regular season against Stetson on Nov. 14.
