Florida coach Amanda Butler named to USA Basketball Under-19 staff

Butler_Amanda UF women's basketball head coach Amanda Butler is one of two coaches named on Thursday as assistants for the 2009 USA Basketball Women's Under-19 World Championship team. The team will be coached by Northern Illinois coach Carol Owens, and Iowa State coach Billy Fennelly will also serve as an assistant.

Team USA is the two-time defending FIBA U19 world champion gold medalists. The USA will be in search of its third straight gold medal at the championship games, July 23-Aug. 3 in Bangkok, Thailand.

“It’s an overwhelming honor just to be considered, and to be in that conversation of possibilities and to actually be selected, for me it’s staggering,” said Butler, a former UF guard who just completed her second season as the Gators' head coach. “It’s something I’m very excited about and something I’m looking forward to. I’m going to put every ounce of energy and effort I can into it in making sure we handle our business.''
