Florida coach Billy Donovan: Gators gave all they had
In the moments following Florida's season-ending 99-92 double overtime loss to BYU, Florida coach Billy Donovan said he couldn't be more proud of the way the Gators battled and that he believes they left everything they had on the court.
"I think when you get to this time of year and ou get to this point in the season, I think one of the most disappointing things is to walk off the court and your players to walk off the court feeling like they could have given more,'' Donovan said. "These guys, I don't think, could have given any more than they had physically.''
The Gators had two opportunities to win the game at the end of regulation and then in the first overtime on the final possession, but couldn't convert the shots.
"It's very disappointing,'' said junior forward Chandler Parsons, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds. "We wanted to keep playing and advancing, make our season longer. But BYU is a great team and we definitely had our chances wo tin the game. We fought hard, but it wasn't enough.'
Parsons, who had two game-winning shots during the regular season, missed a 12-foot jumper on Florida's final possession in regulation. Ironically, BYU guard Jimmer Fredette, who knows Parsons from their AAU playing days, had joked with him about that before the game.
"At the beginning of the game I told Chandler Parsons, "No game-winning shots tonight,'' said Fredette, who had a game-high 37 points. "And he came down to the end where he had a chance and just barely missed it.''
BYU had much more depth, which Donovan said was a factor down the stretch.
"I thought the difference in the game was their depth over the 50-minute period,'' he said. "We had a hard time scoring because of fatigue. Their ability in regulation and overtime to bug defense, offense, really was a difference.''
However, in the end, the close loss was painful.
"It's real frustrating, especially after being so close to winning,'' said sophomore guard Erving Walker, who was 4-of-16 from the field. "I think it was a great game. Bot teams fought and they made a few more plays in the end and were able to come out with a win.''
