Florida defeats Arizona State, advances to Women's College World Series

Florida junior Kelsey Bruder went 2-for-2 with two home runs to help lead the Gators to a 5-2 win over Arizona State in Sunday's NCAA Super Regional in Gainesville

With the victory, the Gators advanced to their third consecutive Women's College World Series. Florida will play No. 5 UCLA Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN.

The Gators will join No. 6 Georgia and No. 15 Tennessee as representatives of the SEC in the tournament. It is the second year in a row the conference has sent three teams.

"What a great weekend,” UF head coach Tim Walton said. "To get to the College World Series the first time with a good team, to get there the second time with an even better team, and then to get there a third
time, that's when you build a program.”

Arizona State (44-17) had two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Sun Devils' Kaylyn Castillo lofted a pop up to Gators shortstop Brittany Walker to end the game.

Florida pitcher Stephanie Brombacher earned her fifth NCAA Tournament victory, pitching a complete game, while allowing seven hits, two runs, one earned, one walk and two strikeouts.  Brombacher (34-6) has registered a 0.90 ERA in the postseason while moving into second on UF’s career wins list with 76 victories and third on the career strikeout list with 541.
