Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn confident young players can step up at Tennessee

Two games into the season, Florida's defense has relied on several freshmen including DE Jonathan Bullard,  LB Antonio Morrison and LB Dante Fowler, Jr. - the former St. Pete Lakewood standout.  And with the loss of LB Jelani Jekins with a fractured thumb, Morrison's role will expand this week at Tennessee.

Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said based on their play during fall camp and in the first two games, he likes the development of the Gators' young players and is confident in their ability to help the Gators.

“I think a number of them have played early on in the first few ballgames,'' Quinn said. "At the defensive end spot, we’ve got a lot of snaps out of Bullard and Fowler. For those guys, it was important to come in and learn the system and be involved and how quickly they could get acclimated. For a guy like Antonio, we call him ‘Bo’ Morrison, how fast he could help, you know, that he went through the whole spring. I’ve always been impressed by him, how physical he is as a linebacker. Moving forward, we all have a lot of confidence in all those guys we put out there. If we’re going to put them out there, then we know we have the confidence that they can get the job done. For those three in particular, who are young players, we have a lot of confidence in them that they can get the job done.”

Morrison had six tackles in the game against Texas A&M.
