Florida football team taking advantage of state-of -the-art lacrosse fields

When Florida added women's lacrosse two years ago, the University Athletic Association constructed an impressive, state-of-the-art practice facility for the new program.

As it turns out, it is beneficial for more than just the lacrosse team.

Florida is holding preseason football practices on the main lacrosse field during the early part of camp to help preserve the practice fields in an effort to help them remain in good condition throughout the season. It was former Florida coach Urban Meyer who began holding preseason camp by moving the players to a different field.

Previously,  the UAA paid rental fees for the team to use the intramural fields located next to the Southwest Recreation Center on UF’s campus.

"I want to thank (lacrosse coach) Amanda O’Leary for letting us use the lacrosse fields and their facilities in camp,'' UF coach Will Muschamp said. "It’s been great, they’ve got a great surface, our people do a great job. I think our guys have enjoyed a little change of pace to go over there. We’ll practice there probably through about practice 12 or 14, and then come back to our fields. We’ll be in The Swamp a little bit before game day.''
