Florida forward Alex Tyus will return to the Gators for his senior season
Florida forward Alex Tyus announced on Saturday that he is withdrawing his name from the NBA draft and will return to school for his senior season.
Tyus, who withdrew on the deadline under NCAA rules, said in a statement he was only trying to determine where he stood as a potential NBA player when he submitted his name.
"When I began this process it was with the intent of gathering information to see what I needed to work on to one day compete at the next level, and I believe I have been successful in doing just that,'' he said. "I have withdrawn my name from the NBA draft and look forward to completing my senior year at the University of Florida. We made tremendous strides as a team a year ago that I look forward to continuing to build upon."
Tyus averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds this past season. He also left the team at the end of the 2008-09 season, saying he planned to transfer, but later returned. The Gators will now have much more depth at a position in which the Gators have lacked numbers in recent years.
UF coach Billy Donovan has signed power forwards Patric Young and Cody Larson, and small forwards
Casey Prather and Will Yeguete. Kenny Kadji also returns after missing last season with a back injury, along with senior starter Vernon Macklin at center.
