Florida forward Kenny Kadji to undergo back surgery

9

February

The chronic back problem that sophomore forward/center Kenny Kadji has been dealing with for the past several months will have to be corrected with surgery.

The 6-foot-4 Kadji will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair a bulging and herniated disc that has sidelined him most of the season. Kadji has played in just eight games.

Kennykadji Kadji has been receiving a series of injections in the hope that he might be able to avoid the surgery, but UF coach Billy Donovan said two weeks ago that Kadji wasn't responding as well as UF physicians had hoped.

Asked as he left the practice facility last Friday if he was concerned about the surgery, Kadji said, "not at all.''

"I'm just ready to get it over with,'' he said.

Kadji had been expected to be a complement to 6-foot-10 center Vernon Macklin as a much-needed presence inside for the Gators. He played in 35 of Florida's 36 games last season, but played just 45 minutes in those eight games this season. He has not played or practiced since Dec. 19.
