Florida Gators Chandler Parsons and Vernon Macklin selected in NBA Draft

Former Florida forward Chandler Parsons and center Vernon Macklin were selected in the second round of the NBA Draft late Thursday night.

Parsons, the 2011 SEC Player of the Year, was the 38th overall selection by the Houston Rockets. Macklin was selected 52nd overall by the Detroit Pistons. The two represent the 32nd and 33rd Florida players selected in the NBA Draft - the 14th and 15th players during the tenure of Florida head coach Billy Donovan.

Thursday's draft marked the fourth time the Gators have had multiple selections in a single draft including 1984, 2000 and 2007.

This past season, Parsons averaged 11.3 points per game and led the Gators in rebounding (7.8) and assists (3.8 per game). During his career, Parsons averaged 10.2 points per game.  He is second in school history with 3,964 minutes, tied with classmate Alex Tyus for second all-time with 142 games played and ninth in Gator history with 859 career rebounds.

Macklin, who transferred from Georgetown then sat out a year before playing two seasons with the Gators, ranks third all-time at UF in field goal percentage (minimum 500 attempts), converting 59.9 percent of his shots (347-of-549).

Parsons and Macklin are the first Gators ever drafted by the Rockets and the Pistons. Tyus, who was draft-eligible, was not selected during the two rounds of the draft Thursday night.
