Florida Gators to open season at No. 23 in USA Today coaches poll; LSU is No. 1

Coming off a dismal 7-6 season, Floridastill managed to edge its way into the USA Today coaches poll, released today.

The Gators are No. 23 in the poll - having been ranked in the preseason Top 25 every year since USA Today took over administering the poll in 1991.

The SEC has five of the Top 10 teams, including No. 1 LSU and defending national champion Alabama, which is ranked at No. 2. Ironically, it's the first time that the No. 1 team has had fewer first place votes than the No. 2 team. LSU had first-place votes, while Alabama had 20.

Six teams from the Big 12 are in the poll, and no Big East team appears in the poll.

Five teams in this year's preseason poll were in the top 10 at the beginning of the 2011 season: Alabama, LSU, Oregon and Florida State. The Tide, Tigers and Ducks also finished the season in the top 10.

Florida will open the season against Bowling Green at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Here is the USA Today Preseason Top 10. For the full list, go here.
