Florida kicker Caleb Sturgis a semifinalist for Lou Groza Award
Florida junior kicker Caleb Sturgis is among 20 semifinalists for the 2011 Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award, presented by the Orange Bowl Committee, it was announced today.
Sturgis is 15-of-16 on field goal attempts for the season, including a 51-yarder. His 2.14 field goals made per game is tied for the highest total in the nation. Additionally, Sturgis has connected on all 19 of his extra point opportunities and is averaging 66.3 yards per kickoff with eight touchbacks.
Semifinalists will be voted on by FBS Head Coaches and SIDs, along with national and regional football writers, past Groza winners and others who will select the three finalists. The presentation of the award will take place at The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday Dec. 8, 2011.
