Florida OL Jessamen Dunker will be released from jail today
Florida OL Jessamen Dunker will be released from the Alachua County Jail today.
Dunker appeared before Judge Denise R. Ferrero in an Alachua County Courtroom Thursday morning, following his arrest Wednesday by the University Police Department. Dunker is facing charges of driving with a suspended license, a second degree misdemeanor, and grand theft of a motor vehicle, which is a third degree felony.
Judge Ferrero released Dunker on his own recognizance, with the stipulation that he not to have contact with the alleged victim, Gordon Watson.
"Get a valid license, then you can drive, but if you don't have a valid license, you can't drive,", Ferrero told Dunker, who responded, "Yes, ma'am.''
Dunker was pulled over for riding on campus on a scooter without a motor vehicle tag. After police checked, it was determined the scooter had previously been reported stolen.
But Dunker's attorney Huntley Johnson, who was in attendance Thursday morning, said Dunker denies the allegation he stole the scooter.
“His position is that he bought the scooter from an individual, he had no idea it was stolen,” Johnson said. “And if he paid the amount of money that he said he paid for it, it was certainly a reasonable amount.”
A freshman from Boynton Beach who enrolled in January 2012, Dunker was redshirted this past season, but was expected to battle for a starting job this spring.
