Florida opens SEC soccer tournament with victory, will face Georgia today

The SEC soccer tournament was delayed by a day due to heavy rain, but when it finally began on Thursday, Florida opened its quest for a title with a 5-3 win over Vanderbilt.

Thursday’s match equaled the highest scoring output for both teams combined for the Gators this season, matching the eight goals scored in UF’s 7-1 win over Mississippi State on Oct. 1. Only one of the eight goals was scored in the first half, paving the way for a wild second half.

Florida's Tahnai Annis scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 85th minute to prevent a third consecutive overtime in the three tournament games played on Thursday.

The Gators will play Georgia tonight at 8:30 for the right to advance to the title game on Sunday.
