Florida quarterbacks under the microscope in today's scrimmage

The Gators are scheduled to scrimmage today, and Florida coach Will Muschamp said quarterbacks Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett will be under close watch to see how much they've progressed over the past week.

Muschamp said there are specific things he and offensive coordinator Brent Pease will look for when evaulating the QB's.

"Scoring points, moving our football team, taking care of the ball,'' Muschamp said. "Those will be key points. We have purposely let them manage, and gotten our offensive staff off the field because they need to manage our team. I think both guys have done a really nice job of that. I think both guys have had their moments where they’ve really shined, and both have had their moments where we probably could be better in some areas. But very pleased with their progress and how they’ve done some things offensively.''

While the quarterback battle is commanding a lot of attention, Muschamp said there are several other positions that have heated battles ongoing for starting positions, but the quarterback position is the most critical.

“On offensive line we’ve got some positions that are being highly contested,'' he said. "I would say corner and receiver. I think we’ve got some guys in there who are competing well at the receiver positions. We have a lot of competition at different positions.”

Although the quarterbacks will be evaluated closely, no decision on a starter is expected to be made.

"We feel like, again, going into Saturday, we’ll see how these guys manage this thing as we move forward,'' Muschamp said. "I don’t see a decision in the next week. I think I want to get two more good scrimmages past Saturday, so we’ll get three good fall scrimmages to get out there live, get off the field and let them play. And we’ll go from there. And when the decision is right, when the time is right, we’ll know.''
