Florida RB Jeff Demps hampered by injured foot
Junior RB Jeff Demps has an injured foot and was expected to be re-examined today, UF coach Urban Meyer said.
Demps said he injured the foot when he accidentally stepped on the foot of one of his offensive linemen, but last Wednesday he said he felt fine and the foot wasn't an issue. He apparently aggravated the injury Saturday night.
“We’re hoping it’s just a sprained foot,’’ Meyer said.
Also, at some point during the course of Saturday's game, Meyer said each of the Gators’ starting offensive linemen suffered injuries, most notably Carl Johnson’s right ankle and Xavier Nixon’s left leg.
"We just kept getting banged up,'' C Mike Pouncey said. "It's just one of those things that happens. We all fought through it."
Meyer said he thought the offensive line "had a great night", especially having to deal with the various injuries.
"When you have five guys at one point (go down), coach Addazio was almost a TKO,'' Meyer said. "When we have five linemen - at one point (Mike) Pouncey went down, Carl Johnson went down, Marcus Gilbert was battling an ankle from all week in practice, Xavier Nixon and Maurice Hurt (all injured). I thought (Jon) Halapio gave us some depth in that offense and we have to get Matt Patchan (fractured wrist) as soon as we can, especially in the next few games.''
DT Dominique Easley (foot), NT Brandon Antwine (shoulder) and NT Lawrence Marsh (severely cut elbow) are expected to return this week.
