Florida rises in both national polls
With a seven-game winning streak and having won 15 of its last 18 games, the Florida men's basketball team rose in both polls this week.
The Gators are ranked No. 14 in the Associated Press poll, up from No. 17 last week. In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, Florida is ranked No. 15, up from No. 19 last week.
Florida has a midweek bye, and will not play again until 1 p.m. Sunday in a game at LSU. Florida coach Billy Donovan said he welcomes the rest for his players, but won't make any drastic changes to the practice schedule this week, and will spend a good amount of time working on his team's mindset and keeping them focused. With Selection Sunday just one month away, he doesn't want them start getting ahead of themselves.
“We try to focus on what’s in front of us right now, and what’s in front of us is getting prepared and ready to play LSU,’’ he said. “And what’s in front of us now is we are playing for a league championship now. And there’s a lot of teams involved in that right now. For me, when you start talking out weeks down the road and you don’t take care and prepare for today, I don’t know if you’re going to be prepared later on. So we’ve got to try to go one day at a time, one game at a time.’’
