Florida softball, baseball teams in key games this weekend
The No. 9 Gator baseball team will put its league-leading SEC East first place on the line this weekend in a three-game series at No. 3 LSU, while the top-ranked Florida softball team continues its quest for an SEC tournament title.
The baseball team opens its series today at 8 p.m. in Baton Rouge. Tampa native Stephen Locke (3-0) will start tonight's game. Locke will be making his first career appearance against LSU. Five of the left-handed pitcher's seven starts this year have come in SEC play and he has worked at least five innings in his last five outings.
Florida (34-15) is coming off a 17-5 midweek loss to Florida Gulf Coast, but has swept its last two series against Georgia and South Carolina and are currently on a six-game conference winning streak. The Gators enter tonight's game with a two-game lead over Georgia in the SEC East.
LSU is tied for first in the SEC West with Mississippi, and in a three-way tie for the regular season tile with Florida and Ole Miss.
The No. 1 softball team defeated Auburn Thursday night in the first round of the SEC softball tournament, and will face fifth-seeded Tennessee tonight at 7 in Knoxville.
The Gators are trying to win their second consecutive SEC tournament title.
