Florida softball dominates Alabama 16-2 to force elimination showdown tonight
The Florida women's softball team put together a dominating performance Sunday afternoon with a 16-2 victory over Alabama in the semifinals of the NCAA Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City. The 16 runs for the Gators tied a WCWS record for most runs in a game, ironically set last year when UCLA scored 16 on Florida in the opener.
The Gators and Tide will play again tonight at 7 p.m. in an elimination game for the loser. The winner will advance to the championship round in the WCWS, which begins Monday. Florida has won three of four meetings between the two schools, winning two of three in Gainesville earlier this season.
Tonight's game will be televised live on ESPN2.
Florida jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first inning. The 11 runs were the most runs scored in an inning in the WCWS. Michelle Moultrie led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run - her third of the WCWS.
