Florida softball to host Arizona State in NCAA Super Regional
Florida is one of four SEC schools to advance to the women's softball NCAA Super Regional competition, and the No. 4 seed Gators will host No. 13 seed Arizona State this weekend at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium on the UF campus.
The first game will be held Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised live on ESPN. Sunday's game times are yet to be determined.
The winner will advance to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City.
Florida defeated in-state opponents FIU, UCF and Bethune-Cookman in the Gainesville Regional last weekend to advance to the Super Regionals. The Sun Devils defeated Boston University and Long Island twice in Amherst,Mass., to move on in the national tournament.
The last time the two teams faced off, the Gators defeated the 2008 National Champions, 8-2, at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs,Calif., on Feb. 19, 2009.
Florida, which is 24-9 in the NCAA Tournament in five seasons under head coach Tim Walton, is trying to advance to the Women’s College World Series for the third consecutive season. The Gators finished as national runner-up last year.
